Charlot King: The Cambridge Murder Mysteries, and Animal Tales

Auntie M Writes Crime's avatarAuntiemwrites Crime-Mystery Author M K Graff

Auntie M recently had a chance to interview Cambridge author Charlot King. She’ll tell readers about her two series, The Cambridge Murder Mysteries, and Animal Tales.

Auntie M: You write the Cambridge Murder Mystery series but just brought out a new series, Animal Tales, very different. What prompted the switch?

Charlot King: Stories pop into my head, and I write them. I reckon it’s more of an addition than a switch. I’m still writing a lot more Cambridge Murder Mysteries if I’m spared, as I enjoy writing them. But sometimes, it’s nice to try something different, and the two series could not be more different. I hope that those readers of the Cambridge Murder Mysteries who try the Animal Tales will enjoy them. I don’t have a long-term plan; the strongest story or character at the time gets my attention.

AM: The covers on both series are…

INVIERNO

The Secrets In The Shadows

The Secrets In The Shadows

It’s in the silence of the shadow where you find the secrets in your mind.
But is it really a weakness that leads you to the pain that you will find?

If you can live through the emotions on the faces that you’ve put away
Then it’s a dream you’re living in the present and you’ve forgotten yesterday.

It’s in silent screams you find the shadows where the silence is deep and low
And a mind filled with shadows leaves the silence no place to go.

For light to shine in shadows the darkness must be deep.
But how do you find solace when the light’s too bright to sleep?

Shapeless shadows hiding secrets that are too dark to force to leave
Betray the darkest reasons that leave no choice but for me to grieve.

A Unique Number

Take 2018 from 2019 and it leaves the figure of one. A unique number. A numerical symbol sharing no other to make its total. We as humans are all one, exclusive to ourselves. We are all unique. We share our individual DNA with no other.

However, in our uniqueness, we do have things we share and perhaps at this time of year, the one thing we all have most in common is our desire to live our lives in peace and happiness.

As the numbers change in your part of the world I wish you all find the peace and happiness you wish for.

A Home

In times forgotten, in memories now old
Where stories of love still remain untold,
There was a soul that had wandered far and alone
Trying to find a way for his sins to atone.

Lies were his friend as they hid his name.
They hid his past, they hid his shame.
Men had died and their faces burned away,
But murders leave bodies that live for more than a day.

The pen writes the stories and the lies hide the cause.
The gun does the shooting and the pride hears the applause.
The dead may be hidden but the stench lingers long
So where does a man with a past find a home to belong?
