The Small Dog on Ageing…

A beautiful poem

Sue Vincent's avatarThe Small Dog

She fell on her face and she looked none too happy…

And recently she seems to feel pretty crappy…

Most mornings, I hear her, when rising from bed,

And where once she’d be singing, she’s groaning instead.

*

Now me, I can sympathise, getting no younger,

I still want my walks but without the same hunger,

I still need my ball and my toys and to play…

But these days, I’m happy to sleep half the day.

*

We’re ageing together, my two-legs and me,

Where I can still run, she’s slowed up mightily,

I’ll still make a run for a half-open gate,

The only thing she’s heading fast for is ‘late’.

*

But while we’re both here, we’ll believe in forever,

In loving and living and laughing together,

For one thing that never grows old is the heart

And once filled with love no two hearts ever part.

Some beautiful places

In a topsy-turvy world,

that spins,

like a ball,

in space,

plants grow upside down,

and fish swim in trees.

Cheers to you,

from a pond’s point of view~

A solid and dependable young girl helps me look after my baby. She is most excellent at laundering and ironing the child’s linen However, she takes a very literal view of life. Fortunately no harm was done.
Mrs Finnegan, do you feel this is just an uninformed mind which may improve with education or an innocent in the ways of the world? In short, should I persevere with her?
Concerned Mother and Employer, Church Road, Brighton

CONCERNED? She threw your baby OUT!!
Forgive me, Madam, but you have failed to recognise that your maid failed…

Misprint…

A young monk arrives at the monastery. He is assigned to helping the other monks in copying the old canons and laws of the church by hand.

He notices, however, that all of the monks are copying from copies, not from the original manuscript so the new monk goes to the old abbot to question this, pointing out that if someone made even a small error in the first copy, it would never be picked up! In fact, that error would be continued in all of the subsequent copies.

The head monk, says, “we have been copying from the copies for centuries, but you make a good point, my son.” He…

Roberta Eaton Cheadle (Image tomfoolery by Teagan)Roberta Eaton Cheadle (Image tomfoolery by Teagan)

When I was a little girl, there were a few times when a group of kids would gather in the garage part of my parent’s modest home, because they liked the games I made up. One boy had the brilliant idea that we should take turns telling ghost stories. So, we turned out the light and got a flashlight to shine up onto the face of the storyteller.

This boy kicked it off with a story about a casket that roamed around. Everyone would squeal when he announced how many miles away the casket was. That was the extent of the story. When it got there, we were supposed to be terrified.  (Of course my parents were quick to put a stop to those shenanigans, but it was great while it lasted.)

I think the adult version of that…
