Moments

The warm barrels of a shotgun with cordite in the air.

Sailing on the ocean with the South wind in my hair.

Crampons dug in deeply on a rocky, slimy face.

Heaven can be found on earth if you know the right place.

The game of golf is boring, it’s anathema to me.

I’d rather be in the kitchen shelling pea after pea!.

I wish I could still play rugby and ride a horse on Camber Sands,

But that life is over. It’s now full of different kinds of plans.

Now I’m watching on the TV as a number seven wins the ball.

I’m listening for the telephone to ring with a film producer’s call.

Yes, I’ve had my moments and perhaps there are more to come,

But I’ll never again be packing down in the back row of a scrum!

I Am!

I am a husband, I’m a grandfather. I’m a London taxi driver at times.
Often I sit at my computer writing silly rhymes.
I’m a cook, a washer-upper, a drink maker, and more.
I do so much that sometimes my feet are worn out and sore!

I punch the keys on my keyboard for a story to create.
But that makes me tired, so deadlines are often late.
I am independent, I’m selfish. I’m happy, but I’m poor.
One time I was employed working for the law.

If I was a comedian I’d make you laugh until you cry.
But that I’m not, so I’ll leave others to that and to try.
If I could make you smile and be happy for just a while
That would mean I’m still functioning and not yet quite senile!

Soothing Tools

If one could be what one is not,

To have a heart like Sir Lancelot,

To ride and battle through life’s onslaughts

To harness the power of juggernauts,

To smile at danger and ask its name,

To carry no shield and feel no shame.

If one could capture all these traits,

To accept life in all its shapes,

To challenge only that which strikes,

To question no human rights,

To unravel that which hides,

To understand all the lies.

If one was honest, true of heart,

To exist together and not push apart,

To love what’s here, not wish for more,

To praise and not always deplore,

To live in hope without fear of rules

To use words as soothing tools!

A Simple Question

images

If the eradication of failure would mean that all could achieve success,

When will control of the population be the question that some will address?

When failure is no longer an option, and the weak have been removed,

Will the gates of Hell swing wider and more smooth?

If Heaven is really achievable, but denied for many to exist

Whose fault is it that misery is still allowed to persist?

Questions

If you are the star that shines on me

Why so heavenly?

If you are the light that beckons from afar

Why so strongly?

If you are the love that flows through my veins

Why choose me?

Love Can Leave A Heart With The Deepest Scar!

Love has no conscience.

Love takes no blame.

There is no heart that love cannot claim.

Love trips!

Love outwits!

Love doesn’t choose a time and place

One love another love can willfully displace!

Love despises reason.

Love can foster commitment,

But it can drive it apart!

Love flatters but it can also betray,

Those whose in its arms it did once lay.

Love is kind.

Love is cruel.

It can turn a true man into a blubbering fool.

True, love can shine bright like the polar star,

But it can also leave a heart with a withering scar!

Love Is a Belief That Wants No Cure

images

If the mind was silent and all thoughts are stilled,

Then the heart can listen and all dreams can be fulfilled.

If the pain can be forgotten and all fears pushed aside,

Then emotions can be trusted and the heart mesmerised.

Never slow beats a heart where there’s love that’s pure,

Because love is a belief that wants no cure!

A Christmas Story

The man put down his shotgun and stared straight ahead.

Every target had been shattered and now were laying dead.

With only hours left till Christmas, how could he be so cruel?

Was he really a seasoned murderer or just a crazy fool?

Across his arm, the gun lay broken feeling hot from being used.

Now his eyes were tired, his arms heavy and his shoulder felt bruised

He told himself it was time for home, travelling with no one at his side.

At least, the journey would be silent with no tears having to be cried.

Slightly trembling fingers zipped closed the carrying bag

The weight of it on his shoulder made his body falter and sag.

How could anyone think of death only hours before such a day

He hadn’t! He was coming home from shooting one hundred clays!

A Contrasting Life

12274244_937598712972923_5627106598196028533_n

A bright shining moon in a tomb coloured sky.

Contrasts we see as the years slip by.

Winters that are warm, summers that are cold,

These and many more things we see as we get old.

December is finishing, it’s almost the end of another year.

There are many reasons to remember what got us through to here.

Loved ones that are passed, others that survive.

Give respect to the dead, but live your life for those alive.

Christmas is a time for the bad to put far away,

Memories of those can be visited on any other day.

It comes but once a year and then it fades from our view.

May my Christmas message of love remain with one and all of you.

From my family to yours; have a great time of year!
