There is a House in Ipswich Town

There is a house in Ipswich Town
That’s called the Spiders Weave.
And it’s been the ruin of many a poor fly
As its upped and tried to leave.

Now the only thing a spider needs
When not spinning its silky web.
Is the odd fly to seduce and pull apart
Before taking it to its bed.

One day there was a blue-bottle
All shiny green and fat.
I saw the arachnid slither along
Pounce and put it inside its hat!

Now here’s a message to all you flies,
Don’t fly near Ipswich Town.
There are eight hairy legs awaiting
And one will bring you down!

A Statue of Sand

imgres

The trees were filled with birds at song, but that scene didn’t last for long.

As man stretched out his grasping hand, taking over that verdant land.

The rich got richer, the poor more poor. Greed and avarice reached every shore.

Until at last all hope had gone, leaving only bigotry as the soloists song.

Lightning struck, the thunder roared. Birds took flight and away they soared.

Leaving but a barren land, filled with statues that had been made from sand!

If I was a number I’d never be a One.
As in my life, there are more things to be done!
If I had a choice then Eleven I’d be,
Then I could return as Danny Kemp the second you see.

If I was a letter I’d never be a ‘T’
As I’d spend all my time in the loo having a P!
I think my choice would be between a Z and a K,
Then I could lay in bed deciding all day!

But as I’m none of the above and now my brain’s on fire, I think I’ll go to church and join the choir!

Woman

OLIVIA-PALERMO-4

The sway of her hair bound in a tie,

Caught my attention, made my heart sigh.

The elegant walk, the movement, the grace,

The confidence showed by the look on her face.

Her curves, of course, were a further distraction

But sophistication in itself is a tremendous attraction.

And The Sixth?

search

Love is:
Something you cannot touch, but you can feel.
Something you cannot see, but you know is there.
Something you cannot hear, but it fills your every thought.
Something you cannot taste, but it sweetens everything you eat.
Something you cannot smell, but you can smell the passion it ignites!

And the sixth? I can be counted amongst those who are senseless!

Time To See

94c7f019ab2d86a3e88d4b3e49eecc8c-1

Sparrows, gulls, swallow and thrush, grace the skies in their swooping rush.

Where they go is anyone’s guess, perhaps it’s home to a welcoming nest.

Fluffy clouds passing slow as if they have nowhere to go.

Then dash around in thunderous intent, suddenly sullen and discontent!

People scurrying here and there, with no time to stand and stare.

Knock her over! Run him down! Wearing life with a perpetual frown.

Life’s a puzzle lived in myriads of ways, changing throughout all of our days.

But no matter where you be, find the time to look and see!

The Mermaid Who Makes The Sea

11535845_867395986659863_3246136772428864393_n

This story for children or those still a child at heart is ‘in review’ at Kindle Direct. I hope to be able to offer it free sometime this coming week.

An excerpt.
Sunday morning arrived with its normal cloudless sky as dad set out up the hill, more in hope than a belief of summoning Jacobi. For the children’s sake I hope you appear today old man, he said quietly to himself.

“I’m not that old. Not measured by the overall age of this world I’m not! I just look old because I’ve had a hard life. Who are you?”

There was a flimsy, tiny shroud of mist sitting on top of dad’s head, with a bearded face poking from beneath who had a finger pointed at him, asking the questions.

“Come on man, answer me! Cat got your tongue has it?”
“I’m Teddy and Tilly’s dad. You met them along with my wife Mary five years ago and changed the weather for us. I must thank you for all your help, it was truly a miracle. My name’s Peter by the way! We have another favour to ask, but first would you like a cup of tea and something to eat? We would be delighted if you could come to our house. The youngsters would be so happy to see you again.”
“Pleased to meet you, dad,” the old man stretched down his right hand which Peter took, shaking it with enthusiasm.
“Thank you for your most kind offer, but I must refuse. I’ve come all the way from Russia to get here flying over Scotland this morning where the birds fed me well. I had all manner of things on the journey brought to me including haggis. Never tried it before. It was, how should I say; different. A little chewy! As far as the cup of tea goes, then I have plenty of my own. By making it all day long, I think I have the hang of it now. Why don’t you go down to the farm, fetch mum, Teddy and Tilly, whilst I lower a ladder making it big enough to carry your weight, then we can discuss what it is you all want? The kettle is boiling inside Nebula as we speak. Five cups will be poured by the time you get back. Sugar?” he asked, as dad disappeared down the hill towards his cheering family nodding his head in reply.
“Three spoonfuls, please. No, wait, I’ll have an extra one to celebrate!”
